Hydro jetting for sewer and drain lines in Ventura
Hydro jetting is a drain cleaning method that sends water at high pressure through a nozzle to scour grease, scale, sludge and fine roots off the full inside wall of a pipe. We camera-check the line before jetting and show you the clean pipe afterward.
Call (805) 429-3719When hydro jetting is the right fix
- The same clog keeps coming back after a plumber snakes the line.
- Grease buildup in kitchen lines, common in homes that cook often and in every restaurant.
- Scale and sludge narrowing older cast-iron drains. Ventura's very hard water, 15 to 37 grains per gallon on average by source, adds mineral deposits over the years.
- Fine root growth at lateral joints, cleared before a lining or repair.
- Preparing a line for trenchless lining, which needs a clean pipe wall to bond to.
- Routine maintenance for restaurants and multifamily buildings with heavy use.
Hydro jetting vs snaking
| Factor | Cable machine (snaking) | Hydro jetting |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Spinning cable cuts a path through the clog | High-pressure water scours the entire pipe wall |
| Grease and scale | Pokes a hole; most stays on the walls | Removes it |
| Roots | Cuts them back | Cuts fine roots and flushes them out |
| How long it stays clear | Shorter | Longer |
| Safe for damaged pipe | Yes, with care | No: cracked or collapsed pipe must be repaired first |
Most single-fixture clogs only need a cable machine. See drain cleaning for the full range of methods.
How we hydro jet a line safely
- Camera the line first. Many Ventura laterals are 50 to 100 years old. A camera inspection shows whether the pipe can take the pressure.
- Choose the nozzle and pressure for the pipe size and material.
- Jet from the cleanout toward the city main, working the nozzle back and forth through problem areas.
- Camera again to confirm the pipe is clean and show you the result.
- Recommend next steps if the clean pipe reveals cracks, offsets or root entry that need sewer line repair.
Hydro jetting for Ventura restaurants
Ventura Water runs a fats, oils and grease program for food service establishments, with inspections and grease control device requirements. Regular jetting of kitchen lines between the fixtures and the grease interceptor keeps a restaurant flowing between pump-outs. See commercial plumbing.

Hydro jetting questions
Can hydro jetting damage pipes?
It can damage pipe that's already cracked, collapsed or badly corroded. That's why we camera-check the line first and jet only pipe that can take it.
How often should a line be jetted?
It depends on use. A home line may need it once after years of buildup. A restaurant kitchen line often needs it every few months.
Does hydro jetting fix roots for good?
No. Jetting clears roots, but they grow back through the same joints. Lining or repairing the joint is the permanent fix.
