Why fixtures wear faster in Ventura
Ventura's water averages 15 to 37 grains per gallon of hardness depending on the source, according to Ventura Water's 2024 report. Scale builds inside faucet cartridges and shower valves, stiffening handles and wearing seals. Near the beach in Pierpont and the Keys, salt air corrodes outdoor hose bibs and exposed fittings. A water softener greatly extends fixture life.

California fixture rules
California sets maximum flow rates for new faucets and showerheads sold in the state, including 1.8 gallons per minute for showerheads and 1.2 gallons per minute for bathroom faucets. California Civil Code section 1101.4 also requires water-conserving fixtures in homes built on or before January 1, 1994. Every fixture we install meets current California standards.
How we install a new faucet
- Check the sink and supply valves, replacing corroded stops so we don't connect the new faucet to old leaks.
- Remove the old faucet and clean the deck.
- Install the new faucet with new braided supply lines.
- Flush the lines before installing the aerator, to clear debris.
- Test for leaks at every connection with the water on.

Faucet and fixture questions
Should I repair or replace a dripping faucet?
It depends on the faucet. A quality faucet with a replaceable cartridge is worth repairing. A low-cost faucet with corroded parts, or one where cartridges are no longer available, is better replaced.
Can I buy my own faucet for you to install?
Yes. We install customer-supplied fixtures. Buy a model with replacement cartridges available locally, which makes future repairs easier.
