Whole-house water filtration and chloramine removal in Ventura
We install whole-house catalytic carbon filters that remove chloramine, under-sink reverse osmosis systems for drinking water, and sediment filters. We choose from what Ventura Water's own water quality report shows is in your tap water.

What's in Ventura's tap water
These figures come from Ventura Water's 2024 Consumer Confidence Report (calendar year 2023 data).
| Constituent | Ventura level | What removes it |
|---|---|---|
| Chloramine (disinfectant) | 0.1 to 3.9 ppm; highest running annual average 2.3 ppm | Catalytic carbon |
| Total trihalomethanes | Highest locational running annual average 55.4 ppb (limit 80) | Carbon |
| Haloacetic acids (HAA5) | Highest locational running annual average 46.8 ppb (limit 60) | Carbon |
| Hardness | 15 to 37 gpg average by source | Softener (filters don't remove hardness) |
| Total dissolved solids | 420 to 1,376 ppm average by source | Reverse osmosis |
| Nitrate (as nitrogen) | Up to 7.2 ppm in groundwater (limit 10) | Reverse osmosis |
| Arsenic | Not detected to 7 ppb in groundwater (limit 10) | Reverse osmosis |
Filtration options
Whole-house catalytic carbon filter
We install a whole-house catalytic carbon filter on the main line, and it treats every tap. Catalytic carbon matters in Ventura: chloramine is far harder to remove than chlorine, and standard activated carbon removes it slowly. It improves taste and odor and reduces disinfection byproducts in showers and baths.
Under-sink reverse osmosis
Reverse osmosis pushes water through a fine membrane that removes most dissolved minerals and salts. It suits Ventura's high-TDS groundwater for drinking and cooking. Reverse osmosis sends part of the water to the drain as it filters, so it's sized for drinking water, not the whole house.
Sediment prefilter
A sediment filter catches sand and particles before they reach fixtures, appliances or other filters. It's a low-cost first stage.
Paired with a softener
Carbon and RO don't remove hardness. For scale protection, pair filtration with a water softener or conditioner. We install them together with one bypass.
What installation includes
- Test your water for hardness, chloramine and TDS.
- Size the system to your household's flow rate.
- Install on the main line with a bypass valve and pressure gauges.
- Add an RO faucet and drain air gap for drinking water systems.
- Show you the filter schedule and set a reminder for replacements.
How pricing works
Every job is different, so the cost depends on the type of work and what the job requires. We look at the problem first, explain your options, and confirm the price with you before any work starts.

Water filtration questions
Will a pitcher filter remove chloramine?
Partially. Small carbon pitcher filters reduce chloramine slowly. A catalytic carbon system is designed for it.
How often do filters need changing?
It depends on the system and your water use. Whole-house carbon media often lasts years; RO prefilters usually need changing once a year. We give you the schedule for your model.
Does a water filter soften water?
No. Carbon and sediment filters don't remove calcium and magnesium. Only a softener removes hardness.
