Trenchless sewer line replacement in Ventura

Trenchless sewer replacement repairs or replaces an underground sewer lateral through one or two small access points instead of a trench along its full length. We use cured-in-place lining and pipe bursting to fix Ventura laterals under lawns, driveways, trees and sidewalks.

Two trenchless methods

Cured-in-place pipe lining (CIPP)

Cured-in-place lining creates a new pipe inside the old one. We pull or invert a flexible liner soaked in resin into the cleaned lateral, inflate it against the old pipe wall, and cure it until it hardens. The result is a jointless pipe that roots can't enter.

Pipe bursting

Pipe bursting replaces the old pipe with new pipe along the same path. We pull a cone-shaped bursting head through the lateral from one access pit to another, breaking the old pipe outward while it pulls new high-density polyethylene pipe in behind it.

When trenchless is a good fit

  • Roots entering through joints along an older clay or cast-iron lateral, common in Midtown and the Westside.
  • Cracks and fractures along much of the line.
  • The lateral runs under a driveway, patio, mature tree, or the public sidewalk.
  • The pipe is still roughly in line and holds its shape.

Trenchless methods don't correct a sag where waste pools, or a section crushed flat. Those sections need excavation, and we often combine a short open-cut repair with lining the rest.

How a trenchless replacement works

  1. Camera the lateral from the house to the city main to map every defect. See sewer camera inspection.
  2. Choose the method based on the pipe's condition, size and route.
  3. Pull the permits. The City of Ventura requires a plumbing permit for building sewer work; work in the street or sidewalk can need additional city approval.
  4. Clean the pipe with hydro jetting so a liner can bond.
  5. Line or burst the pipe and reinstate the branch connections.
  6. Camera the finished line and give you the video for your records.

Trenchless and Ventura home sales

A home sale in Ventura requires a private sewer lateral inspection. If it finds defects, a trenchless repair is often the fastest way to resolve them with little disruption to the property. The city's guidance lets repairs happen after closing if buyer and seller agree, within about six months.

How pricing works

Every job is different, so the cost depends on the type of work and what the job requires. We look at the problem first, explain your options, and confirm the price with you before any work starts.

Trenchless sewer questions

How long does trenchless sewer replacement take?

We line or burst most residential laterals in 1 to 2 days, plus permit and inspection time.

How long does a sewer liner last?

Cured-in-place liners are commonly rated for decades of service. Ask us for the manufacturer's rating for the specific liner we install.

Can roots grow through a liner?

No. A cured liner has no joints, which is where roots enter. Roots can still block the line where it meets an unlined section or the city main.
